Weekly app pick: Flook

Dec 19 2017, 11:16 pm

There’s an overwhelming amount of apps out there (approximately 1.3 million for Android users and 1.2 million in Apple’s app store with around 75 billion downloads and 300 million views a week). But how do you know which ones to download? Which ones are worth paying for? How to differentiate between Google and Apple maps? Airbnb or Hotel Tonight? Tinder or Bumble? We’re in search of answering these questions and each week we’ll be bringing you our weekly app pick.

Flook

Flook, one of the latest apps to launch out of Vancouver, is changing the way we buy and sell items online in B.C. The app by Kijijii is bridging the gap from a classified ads platform and social media platform to further mobilize the marketplace. Posting an ad through Flook is extremely easy: users can add up to 8 shots per item or use the video feature built into the app. Once you’ve added your photos, add a title, description, price, contact and hit the post option and voila – your item is on Flook.

Flook not only offers a convenient way for businesses and independent users to showcase their items but does in an aesthetically pleasing way. The app has a playful vibe, displaying items with big colourful selling prices next to posted items. It is also a great way for consumers to locate items in their area without the hassle of sifting through websites that don’t offer the same aesthetic appeal.

To create your Flook account, sign up with your email address and password. Flook users can then post unlimited items independently or as a business, as well as peruse categorized items within the app. You can also cater the app to your needs as both an user and a consumer. The app has a following option so you can keep up to date on your favourite brands, stores or other Flook users updated items.

Part of what makes Flook so appealing is the “Nearby” feature of the app. The app is geolocalized and a great way for Vancouverites to locate items in their neighbourhood. Users can connect with other Flook users and businesses to find out more background information about the item, purchasing information and more, all with the in-app messaging system.

Why you should download it. Flook puts creative freedom back into its users hands. Flook encourages users to showcase their items in an interesting and eye-catching way. For example, Flook suggests retailers show clothes on a model or use panoramic shots to display their items for sale.
