Weekend Date: Miso Horny

Vancouver is very well-known for two things. Rain and sushi.

The city is overdosing on sushi restaurants. You look to your left, and there is a sushi restaurant. You look to your right and there is a Starbucks. What is beside the Starbucks?  A sushi restaurant. You call your friend and he/she is sitting at a sushi restaurant. You run into someone who you used to work with, and they are opening up a sushi restaurant.

It is ridiculously accessible in this city, but what will quickly destroy your sushi experience in Vancouver is stumbling across a joint with dry fish and three day old miso soup.  The key is to find the door that leads to the Narnia of rolls, saki, and tempura.

Well, have no fear raw fish lovers! Sushi Narnia has been found in the loving heart of Kitsilano.

It is called The Eatery.

This isn’t your typical “stroll in and get a random loud greeting and a funny hat” kind of place. Walking into The Eatery, you would never know it is actually sushi restaurant. The illuminating decor grabs your eyes in a second, and Astroboy and Bruce from Finding Nemo are strung from the ceiling in paper mache form. Candles light up the room with “Dad’s Root Beer” bottles holding the candles into place for romantic purposes, Andy Warhol paintings are beautifully thrown up on the walls throughout the restaurant, and cheetah print furniture lightly adds a intimate touch to the entire experience.

Not only is the decor sexy, but so is the sushi.

Did you ever think about putting bacon in your sushi? A KFC chicken culet? How about prosciutto or figs? Well, the guru’s at The Eatery made all of that possible and suggests to not knock it until you try it. The Fat Elvis is avocado tempura with saucy goodness and will satisfy you quicker than you can say soya sauce. The Volcano, Viva Las Elvis, Jalapeno Poppers, and the Miss Piggy Roll are also all must try’s and will guarantee a serious sushi hangover.

If you, your tootsie roll, and taste buds are ready to take on a new adventure this weekend, hop on the B-line and make your way down to The Eatery. When you are leaving make sure you purchase a nice pair of undies with The Eatery logo on it! They make for a fun potential after party with your date!
