If you’ve been wondering what the weather will be like in Vancouver to kick off 2025, well, it’s a lot like how 2024 ended.
Tonight and tomorrow, we get a brief bit of sun mixed with some showers, followed by lots and lots of rain.
It’ll also be quite a bit chillier than it has been, trending towards more typical winter temperatures.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Vancouver will see lows as cold as 2˚C and highs of only 9˚C over the next week.

New Year’s Day brings the added chance of some blustery conditions, with ECCC predicting gusts of up to 20 km/h.
In our most recent conversation with ECCC, we spoke to meteorologist Derek Lee and asked when Vancouver might see some actual winter conditions.
“Probably not until the end of January,” Lee answered.
Lee added that there’s a chance for some colder, more wintery weather between now and then, with some days dipping to zero, but there are no strong signals or indicators of that until late January. He also doesn’t expect anything crazy to happen until at least then, so you can probably breathe a sigh of relief as we won’t have any 11-hour commutes anytime soon.
“If you averaged out January, the forecast is still above normal temperatures, but probably not as warm as December,” Lee said.
It starkly contrasts other parts of Canada, like Edmonton, which is seeing more typical winter weather and double-digit lows as cold as -26˚C.
The forecast for the first week of 2025 in Vancouver probably doesn’t surprise you, but do you wish we had some more real winter weather?
