Water spout lifts bouncy castle in the air, injures three children (VIDEO)

Three children are injured after a water spout lifted a bouncy castle in the air in Florida yesterday. The National Weather Service in Miami reported that one adult is also injured and one of the children’s injuries are serious.

According to Fort Lauderdale Police, the castle flew across the street and landed in a parking lot.

While this was an extreme example, bouncy castles aren’t all fun and games. Stats are hard to come by, but a number of children are sent to hospital each summer because of injuries in the inflatable structures.

The British Columbia Safety Authority has some tips that you can follow to stay safe in your own bouncy castle this year, including:

  • Securely anchoring the device to prevent displacement by wind or user activity
  • Ensuring all warning signs are in place and clearly visible
  • Check that the inflatable fabric or material is flame resistant
