You can get BOGO tickets for Vancouver’s hottest improv shows
Fall is fast approaching, and while most of us don’t have to go back to school, it still feels like the right time for a fresh start. Or, a funny start, at Vancouver TheatreSports (VTS).
Go back to the good old days of A+ acne and D minus dates, with Back to School TheatreSports. From September 3 to October 12, you can join in on the scholastic sillies, without the homework! VTS’ skilled improvisers will parody classroom clichés, under the strict supervision of a very stern principal.
Student stereotypes (nerds, cheerleaders, punks, jocks, etc.) will join forces this year, and compete to make you laugh. Audience members will have the chance to grade the improvisers — will the winning report card contain straight A’s, or will there be a few B’s and C’s as well? You’ll have to find out for yourself, as with all VTS performances, no two shows are ever the same.

The ICI has classes you won’t want to skip. Go back to school and learn some skills that are actually practical. At the ICI you’ll learn everything there is to know about improv — whether you want to take to the stage and improve your acting skills, or if you’re just looking to increase your confidence and hone your teambuilding abilities, there’s a class for you.
Start with Spontaneity, the first class in the ICI’s Core Series. With this prerequisite class, you’ll learn the basics of improv, and prepare for the next courses in the core series (Environment, Character, and Story). Beyond improv, you’ll learn how to be a good listener, how to move an idea forward while building confidence in your own abilities, as well as how to relax and let your own creative ideas flow.
Feeling studious? The ICI also offers drop-in classes every Saturday at the False Creek Community Centre. If you really want to hone your skills, you can also try your hand at one of their workshops. If you know someone between the ages of 13 to 17, the ICI also offers teen courses during the year.
