The couple were in a marked crosswalk and had made use of the pedestrian light. Partway through crossing the street, however, they noticed an eastbound vehicle speeding towards them.

The vehicle drove through the red light and struck the woman before driving off towards Victoria Drive.

The driver did not stop or call for help.

The woman, a 53-year-old Vancouver woman, was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and has remained there since. Her husband, fortunately, was not physically hurt.

Upon further investigation, the VPD’s collision investigation unit has determined that the vehicle is a BMW X5, manufactured between the 2000 and 2006.
