Vladdy shuts down David Ortiz's request to go viral again with the Toronto Blue Jays star

When the Toronto Blue Jays picked up their first playoff series win since 2016 last week, one phrase stood above all in the fanbase’s collective minds.

Joining former Boston Red Sox star David “Big Papi” Ortiz on the Fox postgame show, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. yelled three words that will forever be etched in the minds of many Blue Jays (and New York Yankees) fans. Egged on by Ortiz, Guerrero joined the first-ballot Hall of Famer-turned-commentator to belt out his signature catchphrase that also coincided with the result of the series: “Da Yankees Lose!”

But after falling behind 2-0 in their next series against the Seattle Mariners, seeing “Da Blue Jays lose” tweets quickly turned the phrase around on Guerrero and his teammates.

Returning to the Fox postgame show after Toronto’s 13-4 win on Wednesday night, which gave Toronto its first victory of the American League Championship Series and cut the lead to 2-1, Guerrero was asked by Ortiz if he had any more jokes up his sleeve.

“I’m trying to go viral again. I’m expecting you to come through once again. What you got for Papi?” Ortiz asked.

But just like he opted for in the ALDS, Guerrero opted to save any possible jabs for after the series.

“It’s one day at a time, Papi. One day at a time and one game at a time. I hope we go viral again,” Guerrero said.

The Blue Jays still face an uphill battle to come out on top in the ALCS, as they head back to T-Mobile Park on Thursday for Game 4.

Guerrero picked up four hits on Tuesday, including a monster 406-foot home run in the fifth inning.

But if the Jays are to come back and win the series, Guerrero thinks it’ll be a team effort.

“To me, I believe in all the guys here. I don’t try to do it all myself. I just try to go out and play and have fun,” Guerrero said.
