A saw injury that occurred at a Visions Electronics in Abbotsford, B.C., has led to a serious violation and hefty fine.

WorkSafeBC recently posted a penalty summary for the incident, which took place in the spring of 2025, at 1828 McCallum Rd, unit 110.

According to the summary, the $84,428.30 fine was imposed against 1706811 Alberta Ltd. / Visions Electronics Limited Partnership.

The summary states that one of the firm’s workers was using a table saw to cut some fibreboard. During the course of the saw’s operation, the material “kicked back,” and the worker came into contact with the saw blade.

WorkSafeBC says that the worker sustained serious injuries. While Visions is primarily an electronic retailer, this particular location also features a small carpentry shop for custom sound installations.

When WorkSafeBC inspected the site, it discovered that the table saw that the retailer was using wasn’t equipped with a blade guard, nor with other “required safeguards.”

A stop-use order was issued for the table saw,” WorkSafeBC’s summary states, adding, “The firm failed to ensure that machinery was fitted with adequate safeguards to prevent workers from accessing hazardous points of operations.

Another violation that occurred in the same summary was also considered “high-risk.”

WorkSafeBC says the firm “failed to ensure that the circular saws had anti-kickback fingers and a splitter or spreader, or a riving knife designed to prevent kickback.”

Further documentation obtained by Daily Hive states that the retailer has undertaken certain measures to achieve compliance with orders issued by WorkSafeBC.

The retailer has also been reminded that if it were to obtain a table saw in the future, it should equip it with anti-kickback measures and a table guard.
