Virtual cultural festival to give out $100 every 15 minutes this Saturday

Sep 23 2020, 6:00 pm

Western Canada’s largest multicultural festival is returning with digital programming for the very first time this year.

Surrey Fusion Festival typically takes place at Holland Park, drawing in crowds of more than 100,000 people to celebrate music, food, and culture. Now, on Saturday, September 26, Virtual Surrey Fusion Festival will continue the celebrations in partnership with Culture Days.

The free and inclusive event, presented by Coast Capital Savings, has something for the whole family to enjoy with a live stream followed by a four-week interactive cultural video series.

To mark the occasion, $600 worth of prizes will be given away during the 105-minute digital festival live stream.

Viewers of the Virtual Surrey Fusion Festival live stream can look forward to segments with cultural performances, musical entertainment, cooking segments, kids’ activities, Surrey history, and Indigenous education.

This year’s top musical acts include BC World Music Collective, Buckman Coe, Mad Riddim, and TikTok famous Indigenous hoop dancer James Jones. The lineup to date also includes local performers:

  • Alisa Blanc
  • Desmond Williams
  • Edgar Muenala
  • Eire Born Irish Dance Company

The series is expected to feature up to 30 educational videos with everything from “how-to” cooking tutorials to dance, arts, and crafts activities from a variety of different cultures across the globe. The City of Surrey’s Museum, Heritage and Performing Arts Centres will also be participating.

To enter to win a prize during the live stream event on September 26, simply tag a friend in the comments when prompted to during the show.

The organizers of Virtual Surrey Fusion Festival will be giving away a $100 gift card every 15 minutes on Facebook Live — that’s six chances to win! And the more friends you tag, the more entries you have.
