Virtual career fair connects Vancouverites directly with job opportunities

More than 15,000 new jobs were created across the province in August, bringing BC’s unemployment rate down to 10.7%.

With employment opportunities on the rise, Canadians may be eager to explore different avenues to advance in their professional lives. Although in-person job recruitment events may be on hold, there are still digital options to consider.

The 2020 Contact TAIWAN Virtual Career Fair, taking place on Tuesday, September 29, from 6 to 8 pm, is a case in point.

Spearheaded by the Department of Investment Services of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan in collaboration with the Taiwan Trade Center, Vancouver, the event is set to connect Vancouverites with potential future employers.

The online-only career fair will be structured with a series of one-on-one employment meetings, during which time local talent can interact directly with employers and learn more about the positions available.

Over 20 companies and research institutes in Taiwan will be represented during the two-hour career fair. This includes major Taiwanese firms in the tech sector like D-Link, CipherLab, Micron, Foxconn, and CyberLink, along with the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan.

Representatives from these organizations are looking to find professionals based in Vancouver or elsewhere in the Lower Mainland. The job vacancies to be filled are in marketing, banking, biotech, ICT, AI, IoT, and medical professions.

Some of the job openings have negotiable work from home flexibility, and others are based in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Toronto. Select positions are based outside of Canada, notably in Taiwan and San Francisco, which may be suitable for those interested in combining travel with work.

In terms of online interviews, participating companies are offering eight sessions that are 15 minutes each in length, and applicants can choose the time that suits them. This allows interviewees to book multiple sessions with different companies all in one day.

Employers and job seekers can register for the 2020 Contact TAIWAN Virtual Career Fair online prior to the event. Application deadline is 8 pm on Tuesday, September 15. Professionals hoping to attend must follow a series of steps to sign up for the event, including formatting their resume to meet set guidelines.

To attend this year’s virtual career fair, you just need to do the following:

  • Register as a Contact TAIWAN website member and sign in to your account.
  • Book meeting sessions with your ideal selection of companies and upload your resume.
  • Wait for the interview approval list.

Anyone who can’t make it to the career fair but wishes to send in their resume can do so by 8 pm on Monday, September 28. Job vacancies for applicants who choose this option will be different from those who are attending the online event.

Everyone who plans to attend the 2020 Contact TAIWAN Virtual Career Fair is asked to review the application instructions here before doing so. For more information and to see the full list of participating employers, visit the career fair website.
