The summer is winding down and in Vancouver one of the signs that it’s about to end is the annual Victory Square Block Party, which takes place Sunday Sept 4th at Victory Square of course, on Cambie and Hastings. It’s a great celebration of independent music in Vancouver. Although I’d like to see some local hip hop acts like Jay Kin be on the bill as well. Perhaps next year.
The 2011 lineup for Vancouver’s Victory Square Block Party includes many amazing local artists including Sun Wizard, Hot Panda, B-Lines, Men at Adventure, My Friend Wallis, Peace, and Bleating Hearts. There will also be DJ sets by Blood Diamonds, Glory Days and Teen Daze.
The event is free for all to attend and don’t be scared by the large concentration of hipsters, trust me they are harmless.
Moreover, the neat thing about this Block Party is that proceeds from sponsorships and raffles go to funding street paper Megaphone, which is sold by homeless and low-income vendors. You might have seen them hawking the paper downtown from time to time. Pick one up next time.
