Victoria tops list of highest per-capita consumer of sex toys; Vancouver ranked 16th

PinkCherry Adult Toys compiled their list of the top cities in Canada purchasing sex toys, adult novelties and lingerie.

Looking at its sales over a one year period throughout 2013, PinkCherry determined which cities ordered the most amount of times per capita. They divided the amount of orders in each region by the number of people who live there (over 18 and according to the census) to compile data on the average amount of orders per head.

The top three cities whose residents ordered the most for this period are Victoria, BC; Grande Prairie, Alberta; and Fredricton, New Brunswick. Vancouver came in 16th place.

According to statistics for the same period, the top purchases across Canada include bullet vibrators, lubricant, and rabbit vibrators. Another strong product is the Magic Wand; originally marketed as a body massager in the 1970s it continues to have widespread popularity as a sex toy.

While some might postulate Victoria’s top ranking having to relate with the location of the company, PinkCherry is not based locally but in Oakville, Ontario. Vice’s Sarah Berman believes Victorians buy more sex toys than any other Canadian because of its high population of seniors, surplus of single ladies (five women to every four men according to the 2011 census), and the region’s gloomy, wet weather.

Vancouver and Calgary are the largest cities to make it into the Top 25 list; the country’s two largest cities, Toronto and Montreal, were not listed in the ranking.
