A 31-year old male has been charged for a vicious attack on a Vancouver tattoo artist at International Village Mall near the Downtown Eastside.
Multiple security cameras inside Looks Wow tattoo parlour recorded shocking footage of Byron Thomas Hobbs attacking 50-year old store owner Jojo Geronimo on Monday afternoon.
She was attacked over a scheduling disagreement as no spots were available during his desired times. He became increasingly agitated and requested for a refund on his $15 credit, but Geronimo refused and threatened to call mall security which led to the attack. Geronimo is seen attempting to use a chair to defend herself, but Hobbs instead uses it against her. She is seen flying backward repeatedly.
Mall security arrived and temporarily stopped the attack. However, a female security guard was allegedly also punched before Vancouver Police arrived to subdue and arrest him.
He has been released and will face a court appearance on April 2 over two counts of assault. One of his bail conditions is to abstain from returning to Looks Wow tattoo parlour, and his release has led Geronimo to tell CTV that she fears for her safety.
It is not known if Hobbs suffers from mental issues, however, he is known to police. He is also a suspect in an alleged theft at a Gastown tattoo parlour and the assault of an employee at a Granville Street shoe store.
Geronimo suffers from injuries to her stomach and shoulder areas, and has issues with eating and talking.
