New eye-catching Metro Vancouver crosswalk unveiled to honour veterans

A new commemorative crosswalk has been unveiled in Metro Vancouver to honour local veterans and their contributions to Canada.
The City of Richmond held a special event on Thursday, Sept. 18, for the crosswalk located at the intersection of No. 3 Road and Anderson Road.
According to Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie, the crosswalk is a visible and permanent symbol of remembrance, created through consultation and collaboration.
“Located near our Cenotaph and Remembrance Day ceremony site, it reminds us daily of the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of those who served. It’s a meaningful addition to our city and a sincere expression of respect,” said Brodie in a release.

The commemorative crosswalk was designed through an inclusive engagement process involving veterans’ organizations, community partners, and accessibility advisors.
Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, local Army Cadets, Richmond City Council, and a local MP and MLA were in attendance at the unveiling today.
Pedestrians and drivers will be able to see the crosswalk near Richmond City Hall and the Cenotaph, with a stylized maple leaf and the phrase “Lest We Forget” emblazoned on it.
The crosswalk features elements of the Royal Canadian Legion’s national commemorative design and was completed in August for a budget of $20,000.
The unveiling also took place a day before the annual Military Family Appreciation Day, held each year on the third Friday in September. According to the Royal Canadian Air Force, the day honours the daily service and sacrifice made by Canadian Armed Forces personnel and their families.
