Look up: Venus-Jupiter conjunction coming Sunday at dusk

Nov 24 2019, 12:35 am

Planets Venus and Jupiter will appear incredibly close in the night sky this weekend, in an event known as a conjunction.

The best time to spot the planets passing what appears to be a fingers-width from each other will be Sunday around dusk, according to astronomy websites. The further south you are the better, because the two planets will appear relatively low in the sky.

If you can, get to a high point and look southwest around sunset. Venus and Jupiter will emerge as the brightest objects in the sky around dusk. A pair of binoculars can enhance your view.

If you wait too late you’ll miss it, though. Both planets will set before 5:50 pm for Vancouverites.

The last Venus-Jupiter conjunction happened in January, and you’ll have to wait until 2021 for the next one.
