12 Days of Giveaways: LOGiiX presents…2014 Best Tech Gifts

Dec 19 2017, 9:05 pm

Written by Nicole Mucci, Creative Manager, LOGiiX for Vancity Buzz

As the creative manager for an up and coming technology accessory company, it’s my job to not only stay on top of trending tech, but to work with the product manager and designer on making sure we have the right accessories ready to market on product launch dates. Working in tech doesn’t mean I automatically knew what tech gifts were the best for this year, in fact because I spend my days dealing with technology, my brain has almost felt over-saturated while trying to come up with Christmas gift ideas for my family and friends.

Figuring out what to get for my self-proclaimed “techie” uncle, fit future sister-in-law or the aunt who is always losing her keys felt daunting a few days ago, to say the least. Luckily, I knew I would be writing a “Best Of…” holiday list for Vancity Buzz, so I figured I may as well nail two birds with one stone. (Note to my family members reading this – one of these gift ideas is probably for you.)

But before we get into the tech gifts, let’s talk about the giveaway:

The best tech gifts

iPad Air 2

ipad 2

At 18% thinner than previous models, with the least reflective display of any tablet in the world not to mention it’s new WiFi + Cellular capabilities, the iPad Air 2 might just be one of the cooler products Apple has come out with in a few years. Unlike the iPhone 6, which garnered attention for being easily malleable (#bendgate2014 anyone?), the iPad Air 2 maintains incredible structure for how thin it is. Plus there are some amazing cases and screen protectors out there! Wondering what this bad boy looks like cost wise? A gold, 16 GB, WiFi only iPad Air 2 costs $549 plus tax. Not too bad for one of the hottest new toys out there.

Playstation 4 Bundle

For $449.99 plus tax from EB Games, you can get the gamer in your life the PlayStation 4 console with a controller and The Last of Us Remastered. The Last of Us is a post-apocalyptic game, featuring Joel, a hardened survivor, who is hired to smuggle a young teen girl out of a military quarantine zone. For Joel, this was supposed to be one of his easier jobs but, trust me when I say, it isn’t. Not only are the graphics in the PS4 spectacular, but the remastered version of The Last of Us includes all DLC (downloadable content) packs for the game, you can delve into Ellie’s past in Left Behind, the single-player prequel chapter, and there are 8 new multiplayer maps. Do the gamer in your life a favour and pick them up the PS4.

LOGiiX Piston Pack Gift Set

Piston Pack

Selling for only $99.95 with a retail value of over $120, the LOGiiX Piston Pack makes the perfect gift! Not only is it easy on the wallet, but the Piston Pack includes a Blue Piston Wireless Bluetooth Speaker, a Piston Power 3000 mAh Portable Battery and the Blue Piston tuneFREQS high performance, in-ear headphones. Colour coordinated packs are available in pink, black and turquoise, and are the perfect gift for anyone with a smartphone! In fact, the Piston Pack has been our best seller in the short time they have been on the website, which makes perfect sense since it includes three of our best selling items.

Nifty MiniDrive

nifty

The MiniDrive by Nifty is one of the most underrated products to come out this year! Anyone who uses a MacBook knows that the storage provided by Apple isn’t always enough, especially for those folks who listen to a lot of music or do a lot of creative work. The MiniDrvie is Nifty’s solution to the storage space conundrum. Designed to fit seamlessly with the MacBook, with precision-machined and hand-polished aluminum coating, the MiniDrive can provide up to 128 GB of additional storage depending on the microSD card you use with it. In fact, if you choose to purchase the MiniDrive straight off of the Nifty website, they give you multiple microSD storage size options, so you can pick out the perfect gift for the avid MacBook user in your life.

LOGiiX My Selfie Remote

[youtube id=”3FyIeb08u6k”]

Coming in at only $24.95, the My Selfie Remote is the perfect stocking stuffer for anyone who takes selfies (and let’s be honest, that’s just about everyone). The remote itself is no larger than your typical apartment fob, and is super discrete looking, unlike a lot of the other camera remotes that are currently on the market. Not only is the My Selfie Remote available online, but you can also find it at London Drugs and other major retailers. Whoever you buy this for can say goodbye to the side effects of bad selfie syndrome, like awkward hand & arm placement, blurriness or distortion.

FujiFilm Instax Instant Smartphone Printer

instax

Now, if you do happen to know someone that loves taking pictures on their smartphone, how about doing them a solid, and buying them two gifts? After all, they are going to be taking a ton of great photos with the My Selfie Remote that they are going to want to print up right away! The FujiFilm Instax Smartphone Printer does the trick! While you do need an app in order to use the printer, you are looking at an average printing time of only 16 seconds! How rad is that? Check out this link to see all of the online stores that you can purchase the printer from.

Tile

Tile

No, I don’t mean the stuff on your bathroom floor. Tile is “the smart companion for all the things you can’t stand to lose.” Now this gift is perfect for the friend or family member who is perpetually misplacing their keys or cellphone or wallet; with a super simple design, you can attach the tile with adhesive or onto a keychain, and from that point on, those items are tethered to your phone. The tile casts a Bluetooth signal up to 100 ft away from you, and any phone that has the Tile app can help you find what you’ve lost. As you start getting closer to you lost item, Tile’s distinctive melody gets louder and louder until you find what you’ve been looking for. The best part? You can order 4 for only $70 + shipping!

GoPro Hero 4 Black

gopro

You’d be hard pressed to meet anyone under 30 who wouldn’t love to have a GoPro for whatever adventures they are getting up to. The GoPro Hero4 Black comes in at $499.99 plus tax and shipping, which isn’t that bad considering it is the most advanced GoPro ever. Not only does it have a 2x more powerful processor and 2x faster video frame rates, it also features incredible resolution that allows you to create stunning footage. Additional features include the 12MP Burst photos feature, which allows you to capture 30 frames per second, and phenomenal night settings. Oh and did I mention that you can use the new HiLight tag? New to the Hero4, HiLight Tag allows you to mark key moments as you record them so you are able to quickly find what you want to share on the GoPro App or later on when you are editing. This product is definitely on my wish list.

LOGiiX Brite Idea

brite idea

Another reasonably priced tech product from LOGiiX makes the list this year and for good reason. The Brite Idea is probably one of the most fun products we came out with this year. Retailing for $24.95 on the LOGiiX website, the Brite Idea is a USB powered LED lightbulb that brightens any workspace or study station. Plus did I mention how fun it is to have one of these kicking around your office whenever you come up with a bright idea and you want your colleagues to know? This energy efficient bulb contains 25 LEDs and has the brightness of 100 lumens, while staying cool to the touch and guaranteeing you won’t be in the dark anytime soon.

FitBit Charge

fitbit

I’m not going to lie to you, this is another product that came directly off of my personal Christmas wish list. The FitBit charge is a wicked product for anyone trying to live a healthier lifestyle and could use a little bit of help monitoring their actions throughout the day. The FitBit charge is the highest end FitBit model on the market currently (next year the FitBit Surge and FitBit ChargeHR are coming out), and tracks steps, distance, calories burned, floors climbed, active minutes and sleep. Plus, it has a rechargeable battery that lasts 7-10 days between charges, and displays the time and acts as a callerID when it’s not telling you to get moving. Once you have the FitBit, all you need to do is download an APP to your phone and you are able to further your training by logging whatever you eat, compete against and share your workout victories withyour friends, and really analyze your progress with their easy to read, visually pleasing charts and graphs.

Like I said, this is the number one item on my Christmas list this year.
