VCB Hockey Podcast: The Omarcanuck Show - Utica Comets in depth

Dec 19 2017, 11:05 pm

With the Utica Comets through to the second round of the Calder Cup playoffs, many fans have turned their attention to the Canucks’ minor league affiliate.

On this edition of the Omarcanuck Show, we’ll feed your hunger for information on Vancouver’s prospects.

To do this, we spoke with journalist John Pitaressi of the Utica Observer-Dispatch. Pitaressi has followed the Comets since their return to the city two years ago, and he tells us how Brendan Gaunce, Hunter Shinkaruk, Nicklas Jensen, Frankie Corrado, Adam Clendening and others are performing.

Pitaressi also talked about how great the hockey fans in Utica are, and how many of them are becoming Canucks fans – even staying up late to watch the games from the east coast.

A couple of quotes from Pitaressi to show what’s to come:

“I’ve been covering hockey for more than 40 years and I swear Baertschi’s the best skater I’ve ever seen on that ice.”

“I don’t like it when (Markstrom) handles the puck… he’s not exactly an artist at that. We were laughing in the press box at some of the things he was doing.”

Aly and I added another new wrinkle to this edition of the podcast. We asked our listeners if they wanted to be on the show. Mike Ingel (@mikeing18) called and gave us his thoughts on why he thinks the Canucks suck.

Then Aly figured out Mike Ingel might actually be Tom Sestito’s brother.

Hope you enjoy it.
