The Vancouver Police are re-opening the investigation into the death of a teenage girl, believed to have been caused by a suspected drug overdose.

Around 10:30 a.m. on September 16th, paramedics were dispatched to a suspected drug overdose after a 15 year old girl was found unresponsive in a rooming house in the 1100 block of Haro Street. She was rushed to hospital where she subsequently died.

Following her death, police attended and members with the VPD Forensic Identification Unit gathered evidence from the scene. Early indications suggested the death was not suspicious and the investigation was turned over to the BC Coroners Service.

While the girl’s death does not appear suspicious in nature, information received by police and the Coroners Service have led detectives to re-open the investigation.

The Vancouver Police Major Crime Section will now be investigating, but will continue working closely with the BC Coroners Service.

Anyone with information about the girl’s death and who has not yet spoken to police, is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at (604) 717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
