In a notorious last-minute town, there something is to be said when an event sells out in advance that is not a hockey game. The Vancouver International Wine Festival, does just that each year and we can look forward to it taking place from February 27th to March 4th, 2012. For those of you who have waited this long, you’ll find that many of the events have already sold out.
Back for its notable 34th year, the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival will welcome some of the most progressive winemakers and winery leaders in the world. The festival typically features a region, and this year it’s Chile with a focus on cabernets. With over 180 wineries participating from 15 countries, 64 events, 1,703 wines to try and a projected 25,000 attending…it is any wine lover’s dream.
So what’s the big deal…besides those killer figures of course. As a condition of participating, every winery must have a winery principal (winemaker, owner, senior executive) present in the tasting room and at special events to pour and discuss his or her wine with festivalgoers. The rock stars of BC’s vibrant culinary scene are here too. Over 60 of the province’s most celebrated restaurants and hotels participate in the fest, either by staging winery dinners or lunches, or hosting food stations at food-and-wine-pairing grazing events.
Whether pouring tableside at the International Festival Tasting or hosting dinners and seminars, these vin-pioneers are set to satisfy curious neophytes and seasoned oenophiles with personal, one-on-one meet and greets. Appearances from the following wine world celebrities are just a few reasons to partake in the Festival’s weeklong festivities.
