Ever wonder who the rowdy fans in that one section at the Whitecaps games are? Ever wonder what they are about or how they came to be, or even how they all know the same chants? You’re about to find out.
I had the privilege to experience being a “Southsider” for a day and by the end of it, I realized it is the only way to do a Whitecaps game. The energy is eclectic and contagious, the fans are respectful and loyal, and last but not least, it is just a downright fun time. Nathan, my videographer, and I were graciously welcomed by the Vancouver Southsiders family and we were blown away with the experience. I didn’t realize how far back the Southsiders went or how far they’ve come. Watch the video to get the Southsider Story and see what it’s like to be one for a day. Southsiders Experience Contest!
Starting at Doolin’s Pub, winners will get a gift voucher for food and drinks (or all drinks) and get to know the Southsiders pre-match. Once everyone’s ready to go, you will accompany the Southsiders in the “March to the Match” where the chants continue and the crowd gets bigger along the way. Once you’re at BC Stadium, the winners will get to experience the Whitecaps games alongside the Southsiders in their section for the June 16, 2012 match against the Colorado Rapids.
