Warmer weather and chance of snow in store for Vancouver this long weekend

This upcoming weekend could be rather busy in Vancouver, and warmer weather may accompany the festivities.

Valentine’s Day is Friday, and Monday is Family Day, a provincial stat holiday.

Vancouver has been deep in frosty weather for the past few weeks, but according to Environment and Climate Change Canada’s forecast, things could warm up this weekend.

Things will still be pretty frosty on Wednesday and Thursday, especially overnight. ECCC calls for wind chill values near -8°C on Wednesday night and -8°C on Thursday morning.

However, starting Wednesday, day-time temperatures are slowly rising every day over the next seven days, reaching a high of 8°C next Tuesday, February 18.

Although there were flurries in ECCC’s forecast earlier this week, now it’s calling for rain showers or flurries this Saturday. Based on the forecasted temperature on Saturday, 6°C, the snow is unlikely to threaten drivers or the typical day-to-day in the region.

ECCC

Further away from Vancouver, ECCC still has an arctic outflow warning in place for the Sea-to-Sky Highway for those travelling to Squamish or Whistler this weekend.

Temperatures have been chilly in the Whistler area for several days, though frosty temperatures didn’t phase Michael BublĂ© and his partner.

The warning is in effect for Wednesday morning, Wednesday night, and Thursday morning. The Arctic outflow could bring wind chill values of near -20°C in areas like Whistler and Pemberton.

“Arctic outflow warnings are issued when bitterly cold air flows from the interior to coastal communities, and the outflow winds create wind chill values of -20°C or less for six hours or more,” ECCC says.

ECCC also says that weather in the mountains can change suddenly, which could result in hazardous driving conditions.

“If outside, dress warmly in layers and stay dry. Cover as much exposed skin as possible to avoid frostbite.”

How do you feel about the weekend weather forecast for Vancouver? And are you glad that snow is mostly out of the picture for now?
