Goosebumps: An Evening with RL Stine

What: RL Stine will be at Queen Elizabeth Theatre for a night of spooky stories and bone-chilling tales. The author will be doing a book signing and a Halloween party will also take place, so be sure to wear your best costumes. Stine, who has often been referred to the “Stephen King of children’s books,” has penned hundreds of spooky novels. As of 2008, Stine’s books sold over 400 million copies.

Haunted Village

What: Explore the Village in the dark of night. Come wonder at the curious, find the unusual and discover the unexpected. Visitors are encouraged to wear their costumes and dancing shoes. Everyone is invited to join the Hill Street Bash. It’ll be a spooktacular time.

SkyTrain Halloween Dance Party

What: The annual SkyTrain Halloween Dance Party is set to take over the rails from Waterfront Station to the “outer reaches” of the system, complete with a “thumping sound-system, decorations, and several hundred of your transit-loving friends,” according to organizers. Those behind the event also note that unlike in previous years, “when we’ve been able to set up in advance, we will all be boarding the train at the same time.” As such, those who plan on attending are being asked to help to make sure the set up happens efficiently, primarily by making some space for the DJ to get the all the equipment in place.

Variety Week Wrap Party 2018 with Ferris Wheel

What: Children’s charity Variety BC is bringing a 60-ft-tall Ferris wheel to the plaza on Friday, October 26 to mark the conclusion of Variety Week. The public can ride the attraction by an optional donation towards the charity. Aside from being able to enjoy unique views of the city not seen since the zip line during the 2010 Olympics, the public event also includes food and entertainment.

Company Wang Ramirez

What: Gravity turns elastic in Wang Ramirez’s new work Borderline, which combines b-boy dance battles with the soaring movement of Wuxia martial arts, to trace a line between chaos and control. Borderline pits five dancers and one rigger against the gravitational forces of weight and resistance.

What: Curated by artists Paula Jardine and Marina Szijarto, this unique cultural event offers the public an opportunity to remember their dead, whether interred at Mountain View Cemetery or not, in a gentle atmosphere of contemplative beauty.

Red Carpet Ball – A Night at Studio 54

What: The famous nightclub is being revived for the Rotary Club’s Red Carpet Ball, who will be hosting an unforgettable night for a great cause. The experience will be complete with a glamorous red carpet entrance, valet parking, paparazzi, live entertainment, and an “ultimate experiences” auction. Music will be provided by the legendary Studio 54 DJ, now SiriusXM show host, Robbie Leslie, who’s flying in to host the party. Food for the evening takes on the theme of “choose your own adventure,” with chef-manned stations, hand-passed food offerings, and an array of beers and wines to wash it down with.

Wild Things

What: Once a year mischievous raccoons, a friendly bear, chatty crows and their forest friends emerge from the bog to greet visitors as they walk along a trail lined with candlelit pumpkins. Enjoy some spooky fun, storytelling and pumpkin carnival games at this Halloween-inspired event. An adult must accompany children. Flashlights and costumes are optional but encouraged. Rain or shine; dress for the weather.

The Haunted Sea: Halloween at the Cannery

What: Dive to the darkest depths of “The Haunted Sea” at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site to explore what lurks in the mysterious fathoms below. Watery ghosts, sea monsters, and twisted tentacles coil and collide alongside historic legends and sea lore. Entertain your imagination with games, crafts, activities and a journey into the deep with real-life horrors that will leave you gasping for air. Suitable for all ages.

Cineplex Community Day 2018

What: For the eighth consecutive year, Cineplex Community Day will treat guests to a selection of popular movies. All proceeds from donations and select concession sales will support the WE Charity (formally known as Free the Children), a family of organizations that makes doing good, doable. Popcorn, drinks, and select candy will be available to purchase at $2.50, a reduced price.

Halloween Yacht Party 2018

What: If you’re looking for seafaring way to celebrate the spirit of the Halloween season, than this special Halloween cruise with room for you and 400 friends might be just what you’re looking for. The event is presented by Where It’s At Entertainment and the event is 19+ only. Costumes are not mandatory, but with this being a Halloween event after all, they are “highly” encouraged.

Taste of Yaletown 2018

What: The annual food fest is returning for its 14th year of special menus, tasting plates, and expert pairings in the restaurants of one of Vancouver’s swankiest neighbourhoods. Diners can enjoy a variety of three-course set menus from participating restaurants, each with a special fixed price of either $25, $35, or $45, for 11 delicious days in a row.

Nnamdi Ogbonnaya

What: Nnamdi Ogbonnaya is a multi-instrumentalist composer, producer, and performer. His musical identity was forged in the DIY community of Chicago. His relentless participation in numerous musical projects bridged genres and created inroads between scenes. Featuring special guest Sen Morimoto.

Demystifying Mushrooms

What: Learn to identify common mushrooms without harvesting them. Investigate fungi’s role as the underground interconnected ‘world wood web’. A 30-minute indoor slideshow is followed by a slow trail walk. Edible mushrooms are not the focus of this walk. Ages 15+.

SPARK ANIMATION 2018 Film Festival

What: SPARK ANIMATION celebrates the impact of animation on today’s entertainment industry and honours the diversity of films and techniques in the field. Highlights include four-time Academy Award winner Nick Park receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, a talk with Vancouver animation filmmakers and Oscar winners David Fine and Alison Snowden, the SPARK Animation Conference and Career Fair, film premieres and screenings, and more. All proceeds from this year’s festival will be donated to Covenant House Vancouver.

Poirier Street Market

What: Launched in 1996, the Poirier Street Farmers Market is the longest running suburban farmers market in the Lower Mainland.  The Poirier Street Market hosts a diversity of vendors and products from May through October. Each week a wide variety of vendors gather to showcase their products – made, baked, grown, or raised in BC.

Goat Yoga at Maplewood Farms

What: Maplewood Farms will be hosting 9 am weekend goat yoga classes taught by Kelli Sroka. Classes will take place on a grassy paddock. Guests should bring their own yoga mats and don’t wear designer gear as it’s going to get a bit muddy with the grass and goats. Selfies with the goats are encouraged so get ready to strike a pose. And if you need some new threads for those photos, goat yoga t-shirts are available to purchase online.

What: To help celebrate the launch of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Netflix is giving a Spellman-themed makeover to the Cecil Green Park House. Visitors will be able to get a witchy makeover, enjoy a potion or two, find their own familiar, and get a sneak peak of the supernatural world that Sabrina lives in. Admission to the event is free, however, Netflix has already announced that the event is oversold. Tickets can still be obtained online, but if you want a sneak peek at the Spellman house, arrive early and beat the lines.

What: The Ambleside Farmers Market has a good selection of organic and conventional produce. Prepared food vendors include baking, jams, honey, syrups, salsas and much more. There is also a varied selection of BC crafts including jewellery, clothing, artwork, pottery, skincare and more. The Ambleside Market also has a book exchange, newspaper reading area, games table, kids play area, and live music.
