2018 UBC Apple Festival

  • What: Entering its 27th year, the event celebrates one of BC’s favourite fruits and gives attendants a chance to learn about the diversity of apples, as well as taste a number of rare and peculiar varieties. One of the festival’s most popular events will be the “Friends of the Garden” apple tasting tent. There, visitors will be able to sample up to 60 kinds of new and heritage apples, all grown within British Columbia. Patrons will also be able to purchase an extensive variety of apples and apple trees to take home.

The Music of War: 100th Anniversary Commemoration

  • What: This fall marks the 100th year since the end of the WWI. In this concert, pianist Maria Jung and guests commemorate this meaningful anniversary through voice, clarinet and piano. With music and poetry touched by war, the musicians will showcase composers and poets who were involved in, or inspired by, the events of the War to End all Wars.   • What: A live, family-friendly Halloween show will be touring Cineplex theatres across BC, Alberta, and Ontario from October 12 to October 29: The Great Big Boo!. The 50-minute show combines the best of musical theatre and trick-or-treating and it’s returning after a successful run last year, featuring a dynamic, original score and some seriously spooktacular spectacular dance numbers. You can bring the kids along to this non-scary Halloween show that follows the story of Zoe and Justin who sing and dance their way through Boo Alley on a quest to save Halloween. There’s never a dull moment as the pair meet some larger-than-life characters along the way. After the musical, you’ll be invited to meet the stars and join them for a fun trick-or-treat event. The show is suitable for all ages, but it’s best suited for children aged 2 – 12 years.

The Dream Horror Live Haunted House

  • What: After what was supposed to be the event’s final year, Vancouver’s famous and terrifying Dream Horror Live Haunted House is coming back for one last scare. Production crews are still completing the house, but the final installment looks to be bigger, better, and scarier than ever. Part of what makes the house so scary is an abundance of actors. Many, stem from various film schools around the lower mainland. Some, however, come all the way from Calgary and out east to join in the madness. Best of all, proceeds will benefit athletes in East Vancouver, specifically those who can’t afford to play soccer.
