Thousands of world-class athletes are set to lace up their sneakers and strap on their swim goggles this weekend, and commuters are being warned that traffic will be impacted in parts of Vancouver.
The T100 Triathlon World Tour is coming to the city for the first time from Friday, June 13, to Sunday, June 15.
According to the Professional Triathletes Organisation, which is teaming up with Do North Events for the B.C. debut, several major roads will be closed to ensure that the massive event happens smoothly.

Local residents are permitted access during the road closures, with those living on NW Marine Drive able to access their homes with the assistance of traffic management personnel.
Several buses servicing the area will be rerouted, and road access to UBC and local attractions like Jericho Sailing Centre, Museum of Anthropology, and the Botanical Garden will be impacted. Commuters are encouraged to plan ahead and give themselves extra time to get to their destination.
Vancouver Park Board approved the application from the Professional Triathletes Organization and Do North Events to host the T100 Vancouver Multisport Festival this past fall.

The application stated that up to 12,000 participants would compete at Jericho Beach Park, Locarno Beach Park and surrounding areas during the international sporting event.
Vancouver’s T100 Triathlon features the world’s top triathletes racing over the new 100 km distance in swimming, biking and running, including Canadian favourite Paula Findlay.
“My last race in Canada was the PTO Canadian Open in Edmonton in 2022 where I finished second,” said Findlay in a release. “Canada feels like home and it will be really cool to have some family and friends able to come and watch me. I definitely have more fans at a race in Canada than I do for any other race on the circuit.”
There will be amateur races, school multisport activities, and more in the event that is free for spectators. A free 5 km. community run and a yoga experience is also planned for this weekend, and sign-ups for the Sun Up 5 Km. Run can be done online.Ā
