Broadway Subway work triggers traffic changes in busy Vancouver area

Work on the Broadway Subway line will lead to traffic changes in a busy stretch of Vancouver today and tomorrow.
According to a traffic alert from the Broadway Subway Project Team, West Broadway is going to be reduced to one lane between Hemlock and Granville streets between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Dec. 2 and Dec. 3.
The closures are in support of material deliveries.
In addition to those Vancouver traffic changes, Granville Street will be reduced to two northbound lanes around the intersection with West Broadway.
The Vancouver traffic alert says that access to businesses, health services, and residences will still be maintained.
“Please watch for and obey traffic control personnel and all signs, and plan extra travel time,” the alert advises.
“For questions, the public can call the 24/7 public information phone line at 1-844-815-6114.”

The Broadway Subway Project has hit some milestones in recent weeks, like the completion of the underground roof at Mount Pleasant Station at Main and Broadway.
At Mount Pleasant Station, the underground roof is now complete.
With the roof done, crews can start to rebuild the street above.

In case you missed it, the FIFA World Cup will also be triggering some pretty major road closures and traffic changes in Vancouver as downtown is expected to be turned into a pedestrian fan zone.
In anticipation of the over 50,000 spectators that will attend each match at the stadium, and the tens of thousands of additional diehard soccer fans who will want to be near the stadium action each match day, the City of Vancouver recently announced its tentative plan — subject to change — to implement a series of temporary full road closures and “local-traffic only” zones, extending beyond match days into the broader five-week tournament period.
