Fire crews are currently battling a three-alarm blaze in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood.

The fire broke out sometime after 10 am on the northwest corner Main Street and Broadway. Flames were visible inside Frenchies Diner at first, and the smoke also appeared to envelop a neighbouring smoke shop.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services say that the blaze was updated to a three-alarm fire just after 11 am.

Firefighters unleashed streams of water from above and from street level to try and bring the fire under control.

Main Street has been closed northbound from Broadway to 7th, and Broadway is closed in both directions from Kingsway to Quebec.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the area. VFRS also says there’s heavy smoke near the fire, which can cause problems for those with respiratory issues.
