There's a Spring Break Improv Camp for teens

Mar 10 2017, 2:07 am

The Vancouver Theatre Sports League is hosting a week-long improv camp for teens this spring break, starting March 13.

If you’re a teen with an interest in acting then you’ll want to attend this engaging and educational improv camp. And if you have a teenager who spends their free time on an iPad, then this camp is a great way for them to get social, while flexing their creative muscle at the same time.

Suitable for kids in grades seven, eight, and nine, the camp offers participants a fun, immersive environment in which they’ll learn the core skills of good improvisation.

Supportive, experienced improv teachers Pearce Visser and Angela Galanopoulos take students through improv exercises and games to hone the skills required in engaging improvised scenes.

The following coaching areas are covered:

  • Creativity
  • Teamwork
  • Acceptance of the ideas of others
  • Storytelling
  • Trusting their own ideas
  • Environment work
  • Character creation

At the end of the camp week, students will showcase their improv skills in an action-packed live performance. This camp is ideal for students interested in strengthening their presentation or performance skills. Camp is finished by 12:30 pm each day so you can still hang out with your friends after class.

You can even bring your friends along to the Spring Break Camp showcase on March 19 so they can see your new and improved improv skills.
