It has been quite a stormy past 24 hours in Metro Vancouver, and there’s a chance of another severe storm this morning as many are without power.
According to BC Hydro on Friday morning, over 11,000 people were without power as of around 8:50 a.m. Hundreds were without power in Richmond, too.
The neighbourhoods impacted are varied, but include the Point Grey area and the King Edward area East of Vine Street and West of Laurel Street.

Additionally, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) signals that there’s still a risk of a severe thunderstorm on Friday morning.
According to ECCC, the forecast for Friday is mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers this morning, with the additional risk of a “severe thunderstorm.”
ECCC forecasts conditions to clear by noon. ECCC also says it’ll be hazy this morning and a chance of local smoke this afternoon.
Things are going to heat up later in the day, with a humidex of 29˚C, but 32˚C inland.
There’s a chance of additional showers on Saturday, with temperatures still hovering around 30˚C, and then ECCC’s forecast suggests things should cool down slightly on Sunday.

Many took to social media to share their reactions to the storm in Vancouver last night, and there were some rumbles early this morning too. Some also reported seeing hail.
“That was legit the loudest thunder I have ever heard. I thought something blew up outside my apartment building,” one Vancouver Redditor said.
Social media weather watchers are also corroborating ECCC’s forecast.

For folks out in the Fraser Valley, there’s still an active orange air quality warning in effect, which signals a very high health risk.
