The Vancouver Special Reborn

Dec 19 2017, 1:26 pm

The Vancouver Special, for those of us born and raised in the Lower Mainland we know all too well about these homes that litter the east side and sporadically appear on the city’s west side. Although under appreciated at the time (majority were built between 60’s and late 80’s), today home buyers and investors seek them as they maximize living space in a standard 33 x 12o city lot. Many homeowners have renovated these architectural icons and here is an example of one that circulated through architecture sites a few years back.

Chris Doray and Arno Matis from Vancouver, Canada’s Iconstrux Architecture provided a complete redesign for this 1960′s “Vancouver Special” house in Vancouver’s Dunbar neighbourhood.
