One arrested, second suspect sought after daytime shooting at Spanish Banks Beach in Vancouver
One suspect is in custody and another remains at large following a shooting at Vancouver’s Spanish Banks Beach on Saturday afternoon that police believe was targeted.
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says witnesses called around 4:50 p.m. to report that two masked men had opened fire on a parked vehicle with someone inside.
People in the area noted the licence plate number of the suspects’ sedan before the men fled. Officers found the sedan shortly afterwards and initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Fraser Street and East 49th Avenue. One suspect was arrested and remains in custody.
Investigators have since recovered the vehicle struck by the gunfire, but have not found or identified any victims.
“At this time, this appears to be a targeted, isolated event, and there is no perceived ongoing threat to the general public,” said VPD Constable Darren Wong.
The department’s Major Crime Section is handling the investigation. Anyone who saw the shooting or has dashcam footage from the Spanish Banks area on Saturday afternoon is asked to call investigators at 604-717-2500.
