A man on a skateboard has died in a hit-and-run collision in the Vancouver Westside during the early morning hours of Sunday.
According to Vancouver Police, two men were skateboarding in the area of Heather Street and West 52nd Avenue at 2:30 a.m. One of the men came in contact with the car, and he later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The deceased was in his 20s and from Ontario. The VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit is at the scene.
Police say the driver of an older silver Mitsubishi left the scene without stopping. The vehicle is believed to have sustained damage on the front-end and wheel on the driver’s side.
“The cause of the collision has yet to be determined, but the driver is encouraged to come forward and report his involvement,” reads a statement by VPD.
“Police are asking for anyone who sees a vehicle matching this description, or knows of a vehicle that matches this description, that has since been taken off the road, or has been otherwise concealed, to call police.”
