The Vancouver Police Department is issuing a warning to residents about a high risk sex offender.
Hayden McCorriston, who has a history of sexually assaulting strangers, was released from custody and is now living in a halfway house in Vancouver.
The 30-year-old was convicted of sexually assaulting multiple women in Burnaby and Vancouver three years ago. McCorriston is currently serving a three-year and two-month jail sentence and has a lengthy criminal history, including the following charges:
- Five counts of sexual assault
- Break-and-enter
- Failure to comply with an undertaking
- Assaulting a peace officer
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Mischief
- Robbery
- Indecent acts
- Assault
- Assault by choking
While McCorriston’s sentence doesn’t expire until next year, the Vancouver Police Department was notified that he obtained statutory release and will be living in a halfway house in Vancouver.
“Vancouver Police believe McCorriston poses significant risk of harm to the community and is a high risk to commit further physical and sexual violence,” the VPD said.
The statutory release includes several conditions, including not consuming drugs or alcohol, obeying a curfew between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., not entering a licensed establishment, and reporting all intimate sexual and non-sexual relationships and friendships with females to his parole supervisor.
The VPD High Risk Offender Unit will be working with Correctional Service Canada to monitor McCorriston, and police are asking anyone who observes him breaching conditions to contact the VPD immediately.
For the sake of community safety, we’ve asked the VPD what neighbourhood McCorriston will be residing in and will update the story when we hear back.
