Some of the substandard rentals Vancouver residents are dealing with

As rents continue to decline across most of Metro Vancouver, it is making finding a place to rent slightly easier for some, but there are still some dubious rentals out there.
Some of the most ridiculous rental listings on Facebook Marketplace and other listing platforms are truly deplorable, and arguably overpriced for what’s on offer.
As money and finances tighten up for some residents around the holiday season, it isn’t unfathomable that people might have to resort to some of the more affordable rentals that aren’t exactly glamorous.
These are some of the worst of the bunch we’ve sourced through Facebook Marketplace.
Howe Street room (shared or private)

Facebook Marketplace
This Facebook Marketplace listing says, “everything included, no extra charges.”
It’s a single room in a downtown apartment that can either be rented privately or shared with a roommate. The apartment already has two other people living in it.

Pictures show a messy room with the carpets torn up and little to no effort put into making it look presentable for photographs. This might be one of the worst Vancouver rentals we’ve found.

Georgia Street solarium

Facebook Marketplace
This room could be a nightmare during the summer due to its location in a solarium. The bedroom, which has an asking price of $980, isn’t exactly spacious.

Additionally, this unit is also shared with two other roommates, and electricity is not included. The entire apartment is also available for $3,750 per month.

Cozy Stadium solarium

Facebook Marketplace
While this suite is at least clean with a cute lamp, it’s essentially the size of a closet. It’s another solarium, for women only.
“No living room share! Enjoy a cozy, café-like space with a beautiful ocean view,” the listing says.
The rental offers “exclusive perks” for den residents, including extra storage, a large wardrobe outside the room and a private lock for security. The apartment and bathroom are shared with two other women.
Price: $700
Surrey fridge suite

Facebook Marketplace
While not in Vancouver, this rental was too good to pass up.
How would you like to sleep next to a refrigerator? That’s what’s on offer in this Surrey bedroom rental.

Facebook Marketplace
The listing calls the suite an “open basement.”
Wi-Fi is an extra $35.
