Vancouver rental listing offers discount with unusual catch

Some strange requests and terms in a Vancouver rental listing have left many residents puzzled, and, in some cases, outraged.
The rental listing was posted earlier this week on Craigslist.
What’s being advertised is a one-bedroom plus den townhome for $2,495 per month. However, in the description, the listing states that the rental is ideal for someone “who usually isn’t home” between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, “as the owner wishes to use a small portion of the place during this time.”
According to the Craigslist listing, abiding by the terms would allow a potential renter a “big discount on market rent prices.”
The only catch, again, is to ideally not be home at any point during the day, Monday to Friday, which essentially eliminates the ability to work from home. The listing does later state that it can work if the renter is home, but doesn’t go into specifics on what the arrangement would look like.
“If you work outside the home during the week, you wouldn’t even know we were here, and if you are home, that can work also,” the listing adds.

The unit itself looks quite nice and well-maintained, and is close to the SkyTrain.

The listing offers a second arrangement for a professional looking for a home and a shared office.
“The designated work-live zoning of this townhome is perfect for someone who wishes to work from home while providing super easy access for clients to visit, as it’s just 50 metres from Stadium Skytrain Station,” the listing goes on to say.
The listing caught the attention of the VancouverHousing subreddit, with a post asking, “WTF is this?”
One user commented, “Are they out of their collective minds?”
Someone else called out the rate at which the rental has been listed for.
“This is really messed because with the rental market the way it is right now, that place maybe could rent for $2,850. There’s barely a discount to have someone in your home 5 days a week for 6 hours. That’s absolutely insane.”
Others called the listing delusional.
