Vancouver raises over $900,000 for breast cancer research at CIBC Run for the Cure

Brunch, a walk on the beach, maybe some shopping – those are activities for a Sunday afternoon. In Vancouver however, people prefer to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.

On Sunday, October 4 more than 5,444 Vancouverites took to the streets to participate in the 24th annual CIBC Run for the Cure; raising an estimated $942,676 for breast cancer research in the process.

“On behalf of all of us at CIBC, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our clients, friends, families, and neighbours for joining us across Canada,” Christina Kramer, Executive Vice-President of CIBC said in a press release. “For all of the women and men touched by breast cancer and their loved ones, your participation means everything.”

An estimated $21.5 million was raised across Canada during this year’s event, with tens of thousands of people taking part in the annual charity outing. To date, Run for the Cure is responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars being directed towards cancer research projects, education programs, and support systems in Canada and beyond.

“Today, we were truly ‘all in this together’ as more than one hundred thousand Canadians united across the country for the CIBC Run for the Cure,” Lynne Hudson, CEO of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, said in the release. “I want to thank each and every one of the participants, volunteers and donors for making a difference, and bringing us one step closer to realizing our vision of creating a future without breast cancer.”
