Two very large birds have taken over the Olympic Plaza (in front of the Salt Building) in the Olympic Village neighbourhood. Their size is grand as they come in around 18 to 20 feet. Moreover, this latest piece of public art (really seems to be a lot these days) will be a permanent fixture.

“The Birds” is a work of art by local Vancouver artist Myfanwy MacLeod. The sparrows are perched next to the public benches in the plaza in an ominious, yet humourous manner. I wonder how real birds will react to these behemoths?

The Olympic Plaza has the makings of becoming a great hub of activity. Perhaps this will become the great gathering place Vancouver so desperately needs. On the other hand it lacks a central location, but that is another discussion for another day.
