An officer with the Vancouver Police Department is being investigated for an incident of impaired driving.

The officer was issued an immediate roadside prohibition for 90 days and vehicle impound for 30 days after being pulled over by Delta Police. It was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol after failing a screening test.

“During the course of the investigation, the Delta Police were made aware that the driver was a police officer with the Vancouver Police Department,” said Delta Police Sgt. Sarah Swallow in a statement on Facebook. “Delta Police immediately notified the Vancouver Police Department, who in turn immediately notified the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner (OPCC).”

“At Vancouver Police Department’s request, the Delta Police Department will be conducting the separate investigation under the Police Act.”

The Vancouver Police has indicated that it was Chief Constable Jim Chu’s decision to notify the OPCC, however, the department will not be commenting any further as the incident is being investigated by another party.
