A new year could lead to new career opportunities as the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is hiring for several civilian roles, many of which pay really well.

The VPD has over 400 civilian staff who work alongside more than 1,300 of its offers. The police force notes that civilian staff work in roles ranging from data entry and crime to victim support and managing teams.

Currently, the VPD is hiring for several temporary roles and a few permanent ones.

The mobility communications services support technician is a permanent gig that comes with a four-days-on, four-days-off work model. The VPD says this role requires “technical and analytical administrative support work coordinating the delivery of mobility communication services” for the police force.

“The incumbent provides advice and assistance to staff regarding functions and applications of all mobility communication devices, responds to requests for mobility communication devices and accessories, and provides information regarding mobility roaming plan coverage,” reads the job description. It pays between $37.20 to $43.78 per hour.

The VPD is also looking for an accounts receivable clerk. This permanent role also requires a four-day workweek and pays $31.66 to $37.20 per hour.

This individual will be “responsible for preparing and issuing invoices and reconciling accounts receivable from outside agencies, companies and internal groups.”

If you’re a front desk whiz and want some shift flexibility, you may want to consider the clerk typist role. This is a casual position that pays between $29.20 and $34.30 per hour. This person will oversee customer service for all front counter services, take minor crime reports, provide general information and/or referrals to the public and outside agencies, and conduct queries through various police databases.

One of the highest-paying roles is a purchasing specialist. This position comes with a pay grade between $43.78 and $51.70 per hour.

“Under the overall direction of the purchasing & inventory manager, the purchasing specialist is responsible for purchasing a wide variety of goods and services, providing advice and guidance to departmental clients on complex purchasing issues, and ensuring that cost-effectiveness is commensurate with quality while satisfying VPD’s specifications,’ states the job description.

The Vancouver Police Department is also looking to add to its casual, auxiliary, and temporary pool of employees, and you can find more information here.
