Vancouver planetarium event lets you meditate under stars

With the new year already starting at a whirlwind pace, you might be looking for a way to unwind, and the Vancouver planetarium has you covered, for a cost.
The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre is hosting a meditation on Jan. 23 for “an evening of calm, clarity, and cosmic perspective,” according to a release sent to Daily Hive.
After a planetarium journey through the Grand Canyon to the North Pole — and then relaxing under the stars and Northern Lights — David Greenshields, a mindfulness-based stress reduction teacher, will lead a conversation on mindfulness “and reclaiming control of your life.”
“Step away from the noise of everyday life and reconnect with calm in a truly immersive setting. Meditate beneath the stars in our Planetarium, where the vastness of the universe meets the stillness of the mind—inviting reflection, balance, and renewal,” reads the Space Centre’s Eventbrite page.
Greenshields has over 40 years of experience working with people with cognitive impairments and cancer. He’s led mindfulness programs for over two decades, including weekly sessions with the BC Brain Wellness Program.
“The session offers practical, science-informed approaches to managing stress and supporting long-term well-being.”
There will also be Teakan non-caffeinated teas and the opportunity to colour mandalas, for further calming activities.
Meditation, a practice that has been around for thousands of years, can help with anxiety and stress. It can also improve emotional health (like self-image), attention span, and possibly even prevent memory loss. Other studies suggest it can help with sleep, pain management and high blood pressure.
