A Vancouver pharmacy is celebrating a feat that many businesses in the city would aspire to achieve.
Macdonald’s Prescriptions & Medical Supplies, which is located at 746 W. Broadway in Vancouver, is celebrating a whopping 100 years of being in business.
The pharmacy has been operating in Vancouver since 1926 and began as a family business.
“Founded in 1926 by brothers Austin and Vans Macdonald, the business has grown from a pioneering neighbourhood dispensary into one of Vancouver’s longest-standing pharmacy institutions,” Macdonald’s Prescriptions said in a release.
“Today, Macdonald’s is known for its expertise in specialized compounding, renal care, and medical supplies, alongside its continued focus on patient-centred service,” it added.
To celebrate the milestone, the pharmacy will be hosting some customer appreciation days and will be offering some prizes and freebies to customers.
The three customer appreciation days include May 8, Sept. 18, and Nov. 10.
Each of those days will feature an in-store promotion and a chance to win a grand prize consisting of a $5,000 travel voucher.
“Reaching 100 years is an extraordinary milestone for our company and a meaningful moment to thank the customers, healthcare partners, and communities who have supported Macdonald’s through generations,” said Michelle Zuccaro, CEO of Macdonald’s Prescriptions & Medical Supplies.
While celebrating a century of business in Vancouver is rare, Macdonald’s doesn’t stand completely alone.
The Lamplighter, a popular pub in Gastown, opened in 1925, and was historic in another way, as it was the first pub to serve alcohol to women legally.
Another business that lasted 100 years but not much longer was Ingledew’s Shoes, which opened in 1915, but sadly closed in 2017.
There are also a few establishments that could reach 100 years in the not-too-distant future, including the iconic Penthouse Nightclub, which opened back in 1947, so the 100-year milestone is only 21 years away.
