Vancouver Park Board to unveil new pop-up concession full of beachside vibes

Jun 11 2024, 9:06 pm

If you are all about the beach days in Metro Vancouver, you will soon have one more spot to kick back and relax at arguably the sexiest of the beaches: Kitsilano.

That’s because the Vancouver Park Board has quietly set up tons of new seating options right near the pool and overlooking the ocean, complete with several Adirondack chairs and half a dozen wooden picnic tables. We estimate you could fit about 50 people in this sunny new space.

Details on it so far are pretty sparse. The Vancouver Park Board confirmed to Daily Hive that we will learn more this week and we’re all ears on when and what it will be.

“Over the past weekend, the Park Board unveiled its latest hospitality venture, a pop-up concession at Kits Beach Park,” a spokesperson told Daily Hive on Tuesday.

They added a promise that more details on the new concession and its food and drink offerings will also be revealed.

However, if you think that some of the tables look a lot like the kind that would fit in at a brewery, you might not be too far off.

Kitsilano does feature one of several beachside spots where one can legally enjoy an alcoholic beverage year-round, and looking at the map, this spot appears to be one of the legal spaces.

The cost of the new space has also not been revealed.

However, while you can crack a cold one (if you’re over 19, of course), you cannot party whenever or however you’d like. You cannot consume alcohol openly in this area before 11 am or after 9 pm, and you can’t cause a scene or be a disturbance under the Criminal Code.

Of course, if you want to have a beverage in between dancing on Thursday nights at the Kitsilano Showboat, it looks like it will soon be even easier.

The new space comes amidst heartbreak from the community, which has long relied on the pool for summertime fun and fitness. However, despite efforts to repair the award-winning pool, the Vancouver Park Board announced that it would not reopen in the summer of 2024.

As a result, the outdoor pool at Second Beach has had its hours extended.
