Vancouver Opera Presents Rigoletto

A tragic tale of love, betrayal and revenge Rigoletto, by Giuseppe Verdi, came to life at the Vancouver Opera last night. A note of warning went along with this production saying THIS PRODUCTION INCLUDES PARTIAL NUDITY AND SUGGESTIVE SCENES. This was no doubt the selling point when I bought my tickets and with scenes such as women dancing in cages and mentions of orgies Rigoletto surely delivered!

The music was riveting and the singing was breathtaking making this a must see performance! The crowd consisted mainly of people in their 40’s and the attire ranged from city causal to classic Opera elegance. This play runs from March 7 – 17, 2009 and all performances start at 7:30 pm, it is sung in Italian with English translations projected above the stage. If it is not yet on your list of must see performances this year be quick to make it a priority as tickets are selling fast, which is of no surprise.

“Opera is one of the most important art forms. It should be listened to and appreciated by all.” – Luciano Pavarotti
