The opera that inspired Pretty Woman is coming to Vancouver this month
One of the most popular operas of the from the 19th century — which also inspired the hit rom-com Pretty Woman — is coming to Vancouver this month.
Presented by Vancouver Opera, La Traviata (The Fallen Woman) by Giuseppe Verdi follows Violetta and Alfredo’s tragic love story as the meet, fall in love face opposition and reconcile just before they are separated, in this case by her death.

Verdi’s opera has inspired numerous works of contemporary fiction, including notable 9os romantic comedy Pretty Woman starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, and Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 musical Moulin Rouge.
Vancouver Opera’s La Traviata runs from October 17 to 27 for four performances at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
