Earlier today, we learned that Rogers had taken Sportsnet 650 off the air, and now another popular Vancouver radio station under its banner has gone dark.
As of 10:45 a.m., on July 7, 2026, News 1130, one of the most prominent news radio stations in Vancouver, was just broadcasting dead air.
Daily Hive contacted the News 1130 newsroom for more information, but we were told that they were unable to divulge any additional details.
We asked if the station was off the air, but they were also not able to confirm.
Rogers Media later confirmed via email that it indeed has taken the station off the air.
“After a thorough review of our radio stations across the country, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close Sportsnet 650 and News 1130 in Vancouver. We are grateful to our listeners and to our team for their contributions to the local community,” said Rogers Sports & Media.
News 1130’s offices are located in Vancouver at 2440 Ash St.
According to the statement from Rogers, News 1130 is one of six stations in four of its markets that are being closed. Rogers is blaming “declining audience and revenue trends.”
Other stations being closed are in Calgary, Halifax, and Kitchener.
Rogers said it continues to own and operate 44 stations in nearly 30 communities around the market.
“Sportsnet will move the radio production of Canucks games to another Rogers Sports & Media-owned station in the market. More details to come,” it added.
News 1130, a 24-hour news station, has been at the forefront of news in Vancouver for decades. This year was actually the station’s 30th anniversary, as it started broadcasting back in 1996. Meanwhile, the station’s signal has been broadcasting over the AM airwaves since the 1920s.
The station would offer news and weather updates, and after AM730 was taken off the air, it was the only Vancouver radio station that offered frequent traffic updates. CKNW does offer traffic updates, but not as frequently as News 1130 did.
JackFM, which broadcasts on 96.9, is another popular Rogers station that is currently still on the air.
