Vancouver named one of the most innovative cities on Earth

Vancouver’s green ways are garnering global love.

Thanks to the city’s politically-powered ambitions to climb to the top of the worldwide eco-conscious heap, Vancouver has been named one of the 18 most innovative cities on Earth by Business Insider.

Joining Singapore (kickass infrastructure and a giant slide), Amsterdam (big-time bike riders), Hong Kong (skyscrapers), Vienna (birthplace of filtered coffee and a stellar quality of life), and 13 other global urban marvels, here’s why Vancouver made the cut:

Vancouver, Canada, has set a mission to become the greenest city in the world by 2020, which has already lead to a 20% decrease in water consumption. Plus, 41% of people walk or bike to get around.

Vancouver is not only the sole Canadian city on the list, it’s one of just two North American cities––San Jose, California is the other city from the continent included.

So, take pride, Vancouverites: The next time you’re dragging your bug-infested bin of food scraps to the curb or looking mournfully at your summer brown lawn on a no-watering day, remember you’re a world-renown innovator.
