A former U.S. official who still has some major ties to American President Donald Trump has now joined a Vancouver resource firm.
NovaRed Mining, which is headquartered on Pender Street in Vancouver, announced yesterday that it was “pleased to announce” that Kristi L. Noem, the former U.S. secretary of homeland security and current special envoy to the shield of the Americas, has joined the company.
Mildly interestingly, NovaRed actually spelled her name wrong in the release, calling her “Krist.”

NovaRed describes Noem as an American public policy leader, executive, and former senior government official. It adds that she has extensive experience spanning economic development, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, national security, and public-private collaboration.
NovaRed is also focused on AI-driven mineral exploration in the province.
“Kristi brings exceptional leadership experience and a deep understanding of the policy, regulatory, and economic factors that influence infrastructure investment, resource development, and long-term economic growth,” said NovaRed Mining CEO Brian Goss.
Earlier this year, the BBC published an article called, “From killing her dog to luxury jets: Six times Kristi Noem made headlines.”
Noem was criticized for wasting agency funds to purchase two luxury jets. The BBC reported that she also allegedly angered Trump thanks to a $220-million ad campaign featuring her wearing a cowboy hat, urging immigrants to self-deport.

Noem also wrote in a memoir that she killed the family’s untrainable dog, Cricket, by leading the dog to a gravel pit and shooting it.
The NovaRed Mining website now officially includes Noem on its management page.
“Her experience provides NovaRed with strategic perspective in government affairs, regulatory matters, stakeholder engagement, and long-term economic development,” it says.
After the announcement of her appointment, NOVAGOLD, which comes up when you Google NovaRed Vancouver, has been review bombed on Google, with some users believing it to be NovaRed Mining, with one review calling it a “Maple Maga company.”
Another Google review wrote, “Hiring Kristi Noem? What a joke. Here comes the backlash.”
We’ve contacted NovaRed Mining for a response to some of the blowback.
