Police are investigating after an elderly man was struck by a vehicle and later died in the hospital.

According to a statement from the Vancouver Police Department, the victim was an 85-year-old Vancouver man.

Police say that he was “walking in a lane in the area of West Boulevard and 43rd Avenue on Saturday, March 7, 2020. He was reportedly “struck by a driver who was backing out of a parking lot into the lane.”

The 85-year-old was rushed to the hospital but, unfortunately, he passed away as a result of his injures last Thursday.

The driver, a 51-year-old Delta man, is said to have stopped after the collision and is cooperating with the police investigation.

The VPD is now asking for anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage to contact the VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.

This is Vancouver’s third pedestrian fatality of 2020.
