Another day and another fire has ravaged Vancouver’s Main Street. The fire which took place between 10th Avenue and Broadway has destroyed up to 5 businesses. Apparently the fire started at the Kishu Sushi Restaurant and soon spread and devoured Slickity Jim’s, an accounting office and Lugz Coffee.
As I type Main Street is completely blocked to traffic between 12th and Broadway so expect heavy delays along Kingsway. Plan accordingly as transit is also being rerouted.
This is saddening for the people who have to now cope with losses due to this fire, however, luckily no one was hurt. The people of South Main neighbourhood are a resilient bunch and they’ll be back better than ever once the dust settles. Also I can now see developers salivating at the opportunity for redevelopment.
This fire comes of the heels of the Little Mountain Fire near 33rd and Main. Could this be the work of an arsonist? Police say it’s too early to tell. We’ll find out soon.
