A Vancouver man is living out his game show dreams with an appearance on the latest episode of Jeopardy!

UBC graduate Brendan Liaw shared the exciting news on social media, exclaiming that “the cat is out of the bag” for his episode, which is scheduled to air on Tuesday, May 20.

“Finally fulfilled a lifelong dream of questioning answers on national television,” Liaw posted on his Instagram.

“Did I have fun? Well, yes! Did I make awkward small talk with a personal hero of mine? Almost certainly!”

The self-described “stay-at-home son” graduated from UBC with a BSc in Chemistry/Biology and an MA in Political Science. Liaw will be taking on returning champion Mitch Loflin, a set-decoration coordinator from Long Beach, CA, and Wendy Poush, a floor manager from Des Moines, IA.

Liaw also answered some questions in his Reddit thread titled, “I’ll be representing our town on Jeopardy!

When asked what his favourite part of the experience was, he answered that all of it was great.

“Getting to wear nice clothes and showing off how much you know? All while earning some Benjamins and getting to chat with a personal hero? Pretty, pretty, pretty good.”

The personal hero is revealed to be Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings, who holds the longest winning streak in the show’s history.

Another person asked Liaw if the contestants know the topics beforehand.

“Nope,” he replied. “You watch us find out the categories in real time when you watch the episode!”

Many Vancouverites sent Liaw their well-wishes for his appearance on the long-running game show.

“You’ve got the whole city pulling for you. Go get it, Brendan!” said one commenter.

“We will be watching and cheering you on,” added another user.

You can tune in to Jeopardy! on Tuesday, May 20, to see how Liaw does.
