Grammy winners Erykah Badu, The Roots and Chris Botti to play Vancouver International Jazz Festival

Coastla Jazz, producer of the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, has announced that Grammy Award winners Erykah Badu, The Roots and Chris Botti will be all be performing in this year’s festival.

The Jazz Fest, one of Vancouver’s signature annual festivals, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and runs from June 18 to July 1 across many venues around Metro Vancouver.

Tickets go on sale Saturday, April 11 at 10 a.m. at www.northerntickets.com.

Erykah Badu

Universal Motown recording artist Erykah Badu, best known for her eccentric style and richly textured music, is a four-time Grammy Award-winning soul singer and songwriter. Regarded as the “First Lady of Neo-Soul,” Badu’s sound – a concoction of soul, hip-hop and jazz – cannot be contained to a single genre. “Baduism,” her highly acclaimed debut album, went triple platinum and along with “On & On” won Grammy awards in 1998.

The Roots

The Roots are one of the best known and most respected hip-hop acts in the business. The four-time Grammy Award-winning band was recently named one of the greatest live bands around by Rolling Stone, and they became the official house band on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where they currently perform every Monday to Friday. They recently celebrated the release of their 11th studio album, “and then you shoot your cousin.”

Chris Botti

Since the release of his 2004 critically acclaimed album, “When I Fall In Love,” trumpeter Chris Botti has become the largest-selling American instrumental artist. His success has crossed over to audiences usually reserved for pop music and his ongoing association with PBS has led to four number one hit jazz albums, as well as multiple Grammy awards.
